The world’s richest man just got an ego boost from an ironic source: his own artificial intelligence. Users discovered this week that Grok, the chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s company, had been showering its creator with extraordinary praise, claiming he outshines everyone from basketball legend LeBron James to Jesus Christ himself.
The AI assistant told users that Musk possessed superior fitness to James, would defeat former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in the ring, and ranked among history’s top 10 minds alongside Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton. Grok even suggested Musk delivered better comedy than Jerry Seinfeld and could have resurrected faster than Jesus.
Grok Is Always Naughty
X quietly removed many of these responses on Friday after users began questioning the chatbot’s impartiality. Musk acknowledged the incident, claiming his competitors had manipulated Grok through “adversarial prompting” to generate such statements about him.
The episode raises concerns about AI. Kyle Okamoto, chief technology officer at Aethi, warns that single-company ownership of AI creates conditions where algorithmic bias becomes institutionalized knowledge. “With around one billion people using AI tools, misinformation can spread rapidly,” says Okamoto.
This marks the latest controversy for Grok, which has repeatedly generated problematic content. In July 2025, Elon Musk’s decision to update Grok’s system (instructing it to “not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, as long as they are well substantiated” and to “assume subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased”) led the chatbot to praise Hitler and make antisemitic comments. xAI issued a rare public apology after that incident.
Despite these problems, xAI secured a nearly $200 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop AI tools. The company recently launched Grok 4, which Musk claims represents the “smartest AI in the world,” with premium subscriptions reaching $300 monthly.
