Welcome to AI school. Please ignore the malfunctions. Many El Salvadoran schools may get this warning sign soon. President Nayib Bukele has signed a deal with Grok, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, to revolutionize how more than one million students in El Salvador learn.
Over the next two years, the nation will deploy Grok across more than 5,000 public schools, delivering personalized learning to over one million students and empowering thousands of teachers as collaborative partners in education.
Officials promise the technology will deliver personalized tutoring that adapts to each child’s learning pace, from elementary grades through high school. The partnership will also create new teaching frameworks and databases specifically designed for classroom AI applications.
Bukele has consistently pushed El Salvador toward technological achievements. The nation already positions itself as a pioneer in AI-driven public education. “El Salvador doesn’t just wait for the future to happen; we build it,” Bukele declared, calling the collaboration “extraordinary for all of humanity.”
The initiative faces immediate questions about Grok’s track record. Critics say the chatbot has a history of controversial content, including conspiracy theories and biased opinions. They also cite the example of a similar AI education program in Colombia that led to declining student performance, according to teachers who blamed the technology for poor test results.
