KG Inicis is shaking up how tourists handle crypto payments in South Korea, thanks to a deal with Crypto.com. This partnership opens the door for international visitors to use their cryptocurrencies for purchases all over the country, simplifying the process of spending digital assets. KG Inicis already holds a significant 40% of the market share, processing millions of transactions each year.
“KG Inicis has an unbeatable merchant network, and we’re thrilled to join forces with them to simplify tourist crypto payments for anyone heading to Korea,” said Eric Anziani, President and COO of Crypto.com.
“It’s all about giving our users more freedom to use their digital assets wherever they go and hopefully boosting the Korean tourism scene along the way.”
How do these tourist crypto payments work?
The setup is super practical. Travelers can pay with crypto at physical stores or online, while merchants get the choice to receive funds instantly in fiat or keep them in digital assets. No more fumbling with currency exchange booths or high card fees.
Crypto.com and KG Inicis aren’t planning to stop at basic payments either. They’re eyeing bigger things like joint marketing pushes and fresh product ideas (pending regulatory green lights, of course).
A representative from KG Inicis said, “Working with Crypto.com lets us build solid infrastructure so digital assets become part of real economic life here, all on a strong legal footing.”
This move fits right into Crypto.com’s bigger expansion push. They’ve managed to snag conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter earlier this year to handle digital assets as a regulated custodian, plus earn ISO certification for their AI systems.
And South Korea isn’t alone in this trend!
More destinations are jumping on tourist crypto payments. Bhutan joined hands with Binance Pay and a local bank in 2025, letting visitors use over 100 cryptos for hotels, tickets, and more. Thailand followed with its “TouristDigiPay” pilot, where tourists swap crypto for baht to spend locally (merchants get fiat on their end).
With partnerships like this one, tourist crypto payments are quickly turning from a niche idea into a must-have convenience for globetrotters exploring places like South Korea in Asia. Exciting times ahead for anyone planning a trip with crypto in their wallet!
