FIFA Moves to Avalanche Blockchain for Digital Collectibles
The International Football Association, commonly referred to as FIFA, has selected the Avalanche network to be the base platform of its digital fan engagement through the use of blockchain technology. This is a plan to reach and entertain its five billion fans around the globe.
The move comes not long after FIFA had just unveiled the new network of digital collectibles.
Avalanche’s AvaCloud together with the network’s capability to work with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) will ensure that FIFA’s blockchain has easy access to the widest range of decentralized wallets and applications.
Why Avalanche?
On the part of Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex and FIFA Collect, Avalanche was the winner in a lengthy selection process where the parameters of speed, security, low fees, and scalability were evaluated.
“FIFA will then be able to provide very special digital collectibles and create captivating fan experiences.”

FIFA is going to take its NFT (non-fungible token) marketplace and digital collectible site called FIFA Collect to this new FIFA Blockchain as part of the transition. In addition, the international federation has made it clear that while more plans and potential applications are being worked on, nothing has yet been made public.
What’s Changing?
The transition means that FIFA will no longer give support to Algorand-based wallets like Pera and Defly. Instead, users will have the option of connecting to FIFA Collect through wallets such as MetaMask or any other EVM-compatible wallets via WalletConnect.
FIFA had made its first move into the NFT market before the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia by partnering with a blockchain company called Modex. Later, it collaborated with the game company Mythical Games in November 2024 to produce FIFA Rivals.
