American Express is offering a fun way to make memories and collect NFTs (Non fungible tokens) passport stamps to celebrate wanderlust.
American Express cardholders can cherish their foreign travel like never before with this program.
Each Amex Passport stamp is a unique, customizable memento stored as ERC-721 NFT’s on Ethereum’s layer-2 Base network.
Luke Gebb, Executive Vice President of Amex Digital Labs said cardholders can personalize their stamps to highlight unforgettable moments.
“Part of the magic of travel is reminiscing about past getaways,” he said.
“As physical passport stamps fade, Amex Passport creates a vibrant way for Card Members to celebrate their travels.”
Because the stamps display only the country, stamp description, and issuance date, they are non-transferable and safeguard privacy.
Reports indicate the smart contract powering these stamps was activated just 25 days ago, marking a swift rollout for this trailblazing initiative.
A program to collect NFT’s and memories
The program taps into a growing appetite for digital travel mementos.
A recent Amex survey found 73% of travelers crave innovative ways to preserve trip memories digitally, while 56% miss the nostalgic ritual of physical passport stamps.
With Amex Passport, cardholders can share their stamps on social media or save them to their camera rolls.
Trips booked through Amex in the past two years are automatically eligible.

Meanwhile Triple-A reports that 14% of crypto transactions in 2024 fueled travel and hospitality.
This can be attributed to crypto-savvy travelers embracing remote work and spending more time on hotel stays.
More than just a win for travelers, the program is a testament to blockchain’s growing role in corporate innovation.
