The refinery tanks at Amsterdam’s SugarFactory haven’t processed sugar in decades, but this November they will witness a different kind of refinement—one where thousands gather to churn the future of Bitcoin. This is exactly what’s happening this November when Bitcoin Amsterdam takes over The SugarFactory for what organizers are calling their biggest European Bitcoin event yet.
The two-day conference, organized by BTC Inc. (the parent company of Bitcoin Magazine) in partnership with Amsterdam Decentralized, runs from November 13-14 and expects north of 5,000 attendees. This is a significant jump from last year’s event that sold out the smaller Westergas venue. This year, the organizers are betting on the fact that the European appetite for Bitcoin has hit a critical point, and hence they moved to an 8,000-square-meter space that has high ceilings and original industrial kettles still intact.
Heavy Hitters on the Guest List
Big names from the industry like Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss from Gemini are part of the event’s speakers. Jack Mallers, who built Strike into a major Bitcoin tool and helped El Salvador launch its Bitcoin program, is coming too. Economist Saifedean Ammous, whose book The Bitcoin Standard has become a must-read for many in the crypto world, will also be there.
The Dutch are also well-represented. Paul Buitink from Holland Gold, investor Willem Middelkoop, and Bitcoin developer Sjors Provoost will be among the attendees. For the first time in an international conference, Satoshi Radio, a podcast devoted to Bitcoin, will host an entire stage in Dutch.
Three stages run simultaneously both days. The treasury stage handles corporate adoption and macro trends. Orange Stage goes technical: protocol development, and infrastructure. The proof-of-work stage takes on philosophy and community perspectives. Add this up, and a delegate gets more than 60 hours of real knowledge from panel discussions, workshops, debates, and fireside chats.
“Amsterdam isn’t just hosting, it’s leading,” said David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc. He wasn’t being subtle. Expect discussions on varied subjects such as European regulations (always a hot topic), privacy, and the growing practice of companies holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets. VIP passes include a private lounge and sessions geared toward attracting institutional money.
Early tickets started at €121, but prices climb as the date approaches. The city’s planning side events all week, effectively turning Amsterdam into a temporary Bitcoin hub.
