Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s clothes at a NATO meeting in the Netherlands on June 24 have sparked a big argument among people on Polymarket.
Polymarket is a crypto prediction site where someone set up a bet asking if Zelenskyy would wear a suit before July. To settle the bet, there must be a photo or video showing him in a suit between May 22 and June 30.
The bet got almost $79 million in bets. At first, the result was “yes,” but people have argued about it twice, and now it’s waiting for a final decision.
On July 1, Polymarket said it knows people are disputing this challenge and that so far, “trusted reports have not clearly confirmed that Zelenskyy wore a suit.”
Arguments Over A Suit
There has been a lot of debate on social media about whether Zelenskyy’s outfit was really a suit. Some people say it was a suit because the clothes were made from the same type of fabric, the colors matched, and the outfit looked formal overall. They believe that the style or cut doesn’t really matter as long as it gives the appearance of a suit.
Others disagree. They say that Zelenskyy was just wearing a black shirt with a black jacket that looked more like a casual blazer, not a proper suit jacket. They also point out that he wore trainers, which didn’t match the rest of the outfit and made it not a traditional suit.
A Polymarket community account on X, called Polymarket Intel, said the outfit should count as a suit. But when Cointelegraph asked ChatGPT, it said the outfit was not a suit because it missed key parts of a traditional suit and looked more like a military-style field jacket. Canadian fashion writer Derek Guy added to the confusion by saying that the outfit was “both a suit and not a suit.”
