Gen Z Valentine’s Date Plans for 2026 Got Sexier with Crypto

Gen Z Valentine's Date Plans for 2026 Got Sexier with Crypto

Valentine’s date season is here, and while roses and reservations are still top-notch, according to a recent OKX-commissioned Pollfish survey, a growing number of Gen Z daters are eyeing cryptocurrency for payments.

The survey tested 1,000  U.S. adults, and it turns out 13% of Gen Z respondents have already paid for a Valentine’s date using crypto. Of course not a massive crowd, but still enough to show the idea has moved beyond memes and into real wallets.

The major roadblock for those not doing Valentine’s dates with crypto is practicality!

For the rest who didn’t respond in the affirmative, the biggest challenge was not having an easy, direct way to spend crypto at dinner yet.

The curiosity runs deeper than payments alone. Nearly a third (31%) of Gen Z respondents said they’d genuinely love to receive crypto as a Valentine’s Date gift, which is proof that digital gold can sparkle just as brightly as traditional jewelry for some.

Meanwhile, 76% of Gen Z respondents consider financial literacy an attractive quality in a partner. Apparently, knowing how to read a chart can be just as magnetic as knowing how to read a room.

Still, actual ownership lags behind the enthusiasm. Only about 29.5% of those surveyed currently own or have ever owned crypto, which explains why so much of the Valentine’s Day crypto talk remains… aspirational.

Two-thirds of all respondents and 76% of Gen Z, 75% of Millennials say a partner who understands money is more appealing. Knowledge of digital assets (crypto, wallets, blockchain basics) scored attraction points with 52–55% of people.

Meanwhile, actually holding crypto assets was seen as a plus by 17–30%, depending on the age group. It’s less about flashing a wallet full of tokens and more about showing you’ve got your financial house in order.

Of course, the crypto-dating storyline isn’t all smooth sailing.

Romance scams tied to crypto made headlines again in 2024 and 2025, with the FTC, Canadian authorities, and others warning about scammers flooding dating apps, now often powered by AI chatbots and deepfakes.

And at the same time, while some find crypto fluency charming, a 2024 Date Psychology survey reminded us that for plenty of people, crypto still ranks fairly low on the “dream date hobbies” list.

Nevertheless, Gen Z is warming up to the idea of crypto playing a role in their Valentine’s Date plans, whether that’s paying the bill, receiving a thoughtful token gift, or simply bonding over smart money moves.

Here’s to Valentine’s date nights that are equal parts romantic and realistic…and maybe, just maybe, a little bit on-chain.
