Crypto Trader Freed After Failed Ransom Attempt in France

A kidnap that had just one day of being committed last Friday, a French crypto Tiktoker was released when the kidnapper found out that he was unable to fulfill their demands.

The three kidnappers stuck the victim into a car of which they had previously stolen and knocked him down then through the kidnappers asked him for $57,000 in crypto. This was reported by local press in France on Sunday.

The Crypto trader who is followed by 40,000 people on Tiktok was released on Saturday after convincing the kidnappers that they would not get the money from him, by showing them the low balance in his account.

Wave of Crypto-Related Abductions Shakes France’s Digital Economy

This year, France has experienced an increase in abductions involving cryptocurrencies. This led to the interior minister of the country having discussions with the owners of the crypto businesses regarding security issues.

On May 31, Paris public prosecutor accused 25 people who were involved in various kidnapping schemes that were aimed at famous crypto figures and their families, among others.

On May 13, the attackers attempted to abduct Pierre Noizat’s daughter and grandson, the CEO and co-founder of Paymium, a French crypto exchange.

On May 3, Paris police saved the father of a crypto entrepreneur whose name has not been revealed, after he was held for several days, tortured, and had a finger cut off during the attempt to kidnap him that was connected to the €7 million ransom demand.

In January, Ledger’s co-founder, David Balland, was taken away from his house; he too had his finger cut off. The next day, police rescued him.

A leading suspect thought to be responsible for a string of crypto-related abductions in France was detained in Morocco on June 4th, just a few days after Paris Public Prosecutor charged 25 each for their role in the multiple plots targeting prominent figures in the crypto sector.
