Conor McGregor Eyes Crypto in Bid for Irish Presidency

conor mcgregor crypto president?

Former UFC champion, Conor McGregor, asked users on X about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, considering its benefits as well as the large potential it poses.

McGregor Champions Cryptocurrency for Government Trust

The self-proclaimed future Irish presidential candidate asked his followers: “Bitcoin or cryptocurrency? I can see lots of transparent and trustless applications within crypto. And I can see an immutable people’s money with Bitcoin.”

The UFC star opened a huge debate between X users when he asked them which cryptocurrencies they believed should be used to bring government accountability. The question garnered responses from some of the crypto industry’s leading figures, including Cardano’s founder Charles Hoskinson and Bitcoin Treasury solution Orqestra co-founder Stephen Cole.

Will McGregor become the Irish Trump?

Last March, McGregor declared his intention to run for president in the upcoming Irish elections in November 2025.

The first Irish UFC champion is seen as a leading figure in Ireland’s far-right movement, and his political views appear to match those of The U.S. president Donald Trump. Earlier this year, he visited the White House on St. Patrick’s Day and showed support for Trump, becoming one of the latest Europeans to back the U.S. president.

If McGregor is elected as a president, he might also follow Trump’s footsteps and take a crypto-friendly approach, as both of them launched their own meme coin project.

McGregor is betting on crypto to win over voters, much like Trump did in the United States. But will this strategy, which brings him closer to the former U.S. president, help him break through the doors of the Mansion House, the seat of the Irish presidency? What do you think could crypto play a decisive role in the 2025 election?
