The Polygon PoS chain (an Ethereum Layer-2) is reportedly experiencing a temporary delay in achieving transaction finality.
According to the Polygon Foundation, confirmations are taking 10–15 minutes longer than usual.
Despite the delay, block production and checkpointing on the proof-of-stake network remain unaffected.
A patch has been identified and is being deployed to validators and service providers.
The foundation promised further updates upon resolution and directed users to its status page for real-time information.
Understanding Transaction Finality
Transaction finality is the point at which transactions are considered irreversible after being checkpointed and accepted by the network’s consensus.
Finality delays can impact services like exchanges and DeFi applications, which often require confirmed finality before crediting deposits, settling trades, or releasing funds.
While blocks continue to be produced every few seconds, the delay introduces a slight risk of transaction reorganization or rollback until finality is achieved.
Polygon’s proof-of-stake chain is widely used by exchanges, DeFi apps, and games.
Even protocols like Polymarket use it for its low-cost, high-throughput transaction processing.
This issue follows recent network upgrades, including the Heimdall v2 hard fork earlier this year.
Heimdall v2 aims to reduce finality time to five seconds and improve validator coordination.
Amid the finality delay and a broader crypto market downturn, Polygon’s native token, POL, dropped 4% Wednesday.
