American fast-food brand Steak ‘n Shake has unveiled a new Bitcoin treasury funded directly through its restaurant sales.
In an announcement on X on Friday, the company said that all Bitcoin payments received will be added to its “strategic Bitcoin reserve.” The move drew strong praise from Bitcoin supporters.
Moreover, Steak ‘n Shake announced that for each meal bought with Bitcoin, it will contribute 210 satoshis approximately $0.23 to non-profit groups and various open-source Bitcoin initiatives.
Bitcoin Payments Still a Small but Growing Slice of Steak ‘n Shake’s Sales
Steak ‘n Shake has not revealed what portion of its restaurant sales come from Bitcoin payments since introducing BTC transactions across its U.S. locations in May. Other fast-food chains that accept Bitcoin through third-party providers also tend to keep such data private.
Still, the company’s overall revenue offers some clues about potential Bitcoin accumulation. In the second quarter of 2025, Steak ‘n Shake reported $69.3 million in revenue a 12% year-over-year increase. The company credited Bitcoin users for helping achieve a 10.7% quarter-on-quarter rise in same-store sales, with growth continuing into the third quarter as same-store sales jumped another 15%.
These numbers suggest Bitcoin-paying customers represent a small but expanding share of Steak ‘n Shake’s overall customer base. As a result, Bitcoin holdings in its treasury are likely to grow gradually rather than rapidly, especially compared to companies focused primarily on crypto.
Nonetheless, the move carries clear advantages. In May, Steak ‘n Shake said Bitcoin transactions allow it to cut payment processing costs by about 50% compared to credit card fees.
Fold Partnership Brings Bitcoin Rewards for Burger Lovers
Steak ‘n Shake has teamed up with Bitcoin rewards app Fold to launch a new promotion offering customers $5 worth of Bitcoin when they purchase a “Bitcoin Meal” or “Bitcoin Steakburger.” Customers can redeem the reward using their receipt through the Fold app.
“This partnership reflects our original vision. For many people, this will be their first time owning Bitcoin and it will come from something as simple as buying a burger. That’s what real adoption looks like.”

The limited-time promotion will be available at roughly 400 Steak ‘n Shake locations across the United States.
