A massive Bitcoin holder from the early days, known as a “Satoshi-era whale”, has just moved the rest of their Bitcoin to a new wallet, just days after sending a large amount to Galaxy Digital.

According to blockchain tracker Lookonchain, the whale transferred 40,192 Bitcoin on Thursday, worth about $4.77 billion at today’s prices. They added that the whale “may continue to sell.”

Earlier this week, the same whale had moved 40,009 Bitcoin in several transactions to Galaxy Digital. Data from Nansen shows that Galaxy then sent 6,000 Bitcoin to the crypto exchanges Binance and Bybit, possibly to prepare for selling.

First Movement Since 2011

A long-lost Bitcoin whale has suddenly come back to life after 14 years of silence.

Blockchain tracker Lookonchain first noticed the activity on July 4, when the whale started moving their Bitcoin for the first time since 2011.

This whale has eight wallets. The first two wallets received 20,000 Bitcoin on April 2, 2011, when Bitcoin was only worth $0.78. That was also around the same time Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, sent his last public message before disappearing.

The other six wallets have been holding a total of 60,009 Bitcoin since May 4, 2011, when the price of Bitcoin was about $3.37.

Another Mini Whale on the Move

Another old Bitcoin whale, this time a smaller one, has also come back to life this week.

According to Lookonchain, this “mini whale” emptied its entire wallet after being inactive for six years. It moved 1,042 Bitcoin, worth about $123 million, to a new wallet. The coins are still sitting there for now, according to data from Nansen.

Lookonchain says this wallet first got the Bitcoin six years ago from Braiins Mining and Xapo Bank, back when Bitcoin was priced at just $8,746. At that time, the whole stash was worth only $9.12 million.
