Vitalik Buterinโ€™s Trustless Manifesto brings Great Hope for Decentralization

Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin has co-signed a “trustless manifesto” together with Yoav Weiss and Marissa Posner, that demands builders to put decentralization at the heart of their work, instead of giving in to fleeting adoption gains.

Trustless Manifesto harps on not compromising Decentralization

An ode to decentralization, the trustless manifesto also exposes the sneaky side of decentralization and warns that the moment a platform leans on a hosted node or centralized layer, trustlessness starts crumbling.

“It feels harmless at first,” the authors say, “but it turns into a checkpoint chip away at permissionless freedom.”

“Trustlessness is not a feature to add after the fact. It is the thing itself,” the trustless manifesto reads.

“Without it, efficiency, UX, scalability? Just decoration on a fragile core.”

It’s important to remember that the trustless manifesto lands at a time when Ethereum layer-2 is slammed for chasing scalability at decentralization’s expense.

Buterin, Weiss, and Posner flip the metric saying, “We measure success not by transactions per second, but by trust reduced per transaction.”

Why is it important right now?

Proof hit hard last month when Amazon Web Services crashed and Coinbase’s Base chain lost 25% throughput as its AWS sequencer flatlined.

Buterin’s has previously pushed to make “Ethereum cypherpunk again” in 2023, hyping zero-knowledge proofs and privacy tech.

It is also noteworthy that Ethereum has seen considerable institutional adoption recently and many companies have pivoted to Ethereum for their treasuries as well.
