Ethereum Foundation Lays Off Staff, Appoints New Leaders

The Ethereum Foundation has let go of some members of its research and development team and made changes to the group that works on improving the Ethereum protocol. This team is now simply called “Protocol.”

In a blog post on Monday, the Foundation said that these changes are meant to help the team work better together and stay more focused, as Ethereum aims to grow and be used on a much larger, global scale.

The Foundation said it will now focus on three main goals: making the Ethereum base layer (L1) faster, improving “blobs” (a feature used to temporarily store node data), and making the user experience better. Each of these goals now has its own dedicated team and leader to keep progress on track and make sure resources are used efficiently.

“We’re changing how we work, and while it’s different from before, we believe it will help us respond faster and work better […] The Protocol team is now smaller, more united, and better focused.”

New Leaders Announced for Key Areas

As part of the changes, the Foundation said that some people from the PR&D team will no longer be working there. They encouraged others in the Ethereum community to hire these team members, saying they hope they will still be involved in Ethereum projects.

The Ethereum Foundation has chosen new leaders for its main focus areas. Tim Beiko and Ansgar Dietrichs will work on improving Layer 1. Alex Stokes and Francesco D’Amato will lead work on Layer 2. Barnabé Monnot and Josh Rudolf will focus on making Ethereum easier to use. Dankrad Feist will give advice and support across all three areas.

These changes show that the Ethereum Foundation’s vision to the future. By building smaller teams with clear goals and new leaders, the Foundation hopes to grow the network in smarter ways. But as Ethereum moves forward, it remains to be seen how well these changes will work and whether the community will support the new direction.
