California Governor Gavin Newsom says he has plans to launch a “Trump Corruption Coin”, to challenge President Donald Trump’s MAGA memecoins.
The satirical cryptocurrency takes a jab at former President Donald Trump’s growing ventures in the world of digital currencies.
The announcement is part of Newsom’s broader “Campaign for Democracy” initiative.
The initiative aims to highlight what he calls the “absurdity” of Trump’s crypto-related enterprises.
The “Trump Corruption Coin” is intended to serve as a parody of Trump’s financial ventures, with proceeds earmarked for redistricting efforts and voter outreach programs.
“We’re about to put a meme coin out,” Newsom declared.
“And you know what, Donald Trump? We’ll see how well your coin does versus our coin.”
“It’s theTrump Corruption Coin.”
Newsom accused President Trump of capitalizing on the volatile world of cryptocurrencies for personal gain.
Trump’s Crypto Empire and MAGA Memecoins
President Trump has increasingly positioned himself as a major player in the cryptocurrency market, particularly through MAGA-branded memecoins and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
According to a 2025 public financial disclosure filed with the Office of Government Ethics, Trump reported earning $57.4 million from his stake in World Liberty Financial.
Liberty is a crypto venture, holding 15.75 billion WLFI governance tokens.
The filing attributes this income to token sales, with Trump’s company, Trump Media and Technology Group, also claiming to hold over $2 billion in Bitcoin and other digital assets as of July 2025.
A recent report by The New Yorker estimated that Trump has amassed approximately $2.4 billion from crypto-related ventures since 2022.
This amount accounts for nearly 44% of his wealth accumulated during his post-presidency political career.
Newsom’s Satirical Campaign Gains Traction
Newsom’s “Trump Corruption Coin” is part of a broader satirical campaign to mock Trump’s branding tactics.
Over the past week, the governor has used his official press office account mimicking Trump’s signature all-caps tweets.
In addition, Newsom has launched an online store selling MAGA-style merchandise, including red hats emblazoned with the slogan “NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”
The Rise of Memecoins and Political Controversy
Memecoins, such as those tied to the MAGA movement, have become a polarizing phenomenon in the cryptocurrency space.
Driven by internet culture and speculative trading, they attract significant attention for their volatility and political affiliation.
Trump’s embrace of MAGA memecoins has been particularly controversial, with supporters viewing it as a savvy business move and detractors labeling it as opportunistic.
As the 2025 political landscape continues to evolve, Newsom’s satirical cryptocurrency venture is likely to generate significant buzz. In fact there is no guarantee that this parody coin will not become a memecoin to lookout for in the future.
