Chainlink Powers Base-Solana Bridge to Unlock Cross-Chain Transfers

Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2, announced on December 4, 2025, a secure Solana bridge built with Chainlink’s CCIP and backed by Coinbase node validation. It has been released as open-source on GitHub and will allow smooth asset transfers between the two networks.

With these bi-directional asset flows, users can now move SOL or SPL tokens into Base apps directly, without extra steps or multiple wallets. This marks an important milestone because it goes beyond Ethereum-only bridges and links Solana’s fast network with Base’s low-cost Ethereum layer 2. After testing over 10,000 transfers in September 2025, this marks Base’s first real step into multichain connections.

Impact on Layer 2 and Cross-Chain Transfers

According to DeFiLlama, Solana’s TVL is $9 billion and Base’s is $4.5 billion. Together, they could unlock $13.5 billion in liquidity, giving DeFi a boost despite recent declines. In November, Solana’s active addresses dropped from 6 million to 2.4 million year-over-year, while Base recorded 407 million transactions last month. Now, with cross-chain transfers enabled, it will reduce fragmentation and lower risk of hacks. It will also foster hybrid dApps for memecoins, NFTs, and trading on platforms like Zora and Aerodrome.

Jesse Pollak, Base’s creator and Coinbase exec, hailed it as “a major step toward Base as the everything economy hub, with every asset, every network, Solana first.” Chainlink’s Johann Eid emphasized security: “CCIP secures the Base-Solana Bridge, empowering devs with a standard trusted by global institutions.”

Analysts expect TVL to rise 5–10%, similar to Arbitrum’s growth after its bridge launch, helping onboard users into the never sleeping capital markets. SOL’s price did not show any immediate change, continuing its slide toward $140. However, experts anticipate renewed strength as cross-chain adoption expands.

Recent Cross-Chain Waves: A Broader Trend

In 2025, Chainlink powered multiple bridges like the CCIP linking with Avalanche in March, which brought in $500 million+ in flows. Then in June, Polygon zkEVM connected to Solana and cut fees by 80%. We also had Circle enable USDC transfers to Solana, and GHO expanded to Base. Base also signaled upcoming Avalanche and Polygon integrations in Q4. These efforts aim to prevent repeats of 2024’s $2 billion in bridge exploits by relying on audited oracles.
